2026 Ford Everest Gets Updated Diesel Engines and New Trims, but No Confirmed US Launch

Date:

The 2026 Ford Everest brings revised diesel powertrains, expanded equipment and new trim choices to Australia’s rugged, three-row SUV market. Despite claims about smart hybrid technology, Ford has not announced an electrified Everest for this Australian lineup or confirmed a US launch.

The Everest combines the truck-based capability associated with the Ford Ranger with the passenger space of a family SUV. For 2026, Ford’s Australian updates focus on improving its existing formula rather than introducing an entirely new generation.

An online report published January 28, 2026, described the Everest as a newly launched SUV with potential hybrid powertrains. However, Ford Australia’s official 2026 announcement identifies specific diesel-engine changes and equipment upgrades without confirming hybrid availability. That distinction matters for readers following the Everest from the United States, where the SUV is not part of Ford’s official vehicle lineup.

Updated Diesel Engines, but No Confirmed Hybrid

The most significant mechanical change concerns the 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine. Ford says the updated unit receives a revised fuel-injection system and a timing chain intended to improve durability. It is offered in the Everest Active and Sport, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Ford also continues to offer a 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel. According to the manufacturer’s Australian specifications, the smaller engine produces approximately 168 hp and 299 lb-ft of torque, while the V6 delivers approximately 247 hp and 443 lb-ft. These are conversions from Ford’s published metric outputs, not US-certified ratings.

Both engines use a 10-speed automatic, although drivetrain configurations differ. The 2.0-liter versions feature part-time four-wheel drive, while V6 configurations offer full-time four-wheel drive.

Crucially, Ford’s published Australian specifications identify diesel engines rather than a mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid option. The original report’s suggestion of future electrification should therefore not be mistaken for a confirmed production specification. No hybrid battery capacity, electric driving range or EPA fuel-economy rating has been announced for this Everest lineup.

New Active Trim and More Standard Technology

The updated Everest introduces an Active trim, giving Australian customers another entry point into the lineup. It features 18-inch alloy wheels, leather-accented seating and a 12-inch touchscreen. Unlike higher trims with standard three-row seating, the Active comes with five seats and offers a third row as an option.

Ford has also expanded the availability of selected driver-assistance and convenience technologies. A 360-degree camera system and tire-pressure monitoring are offered across more versions, although exact equipment depends on trim.

The cabin continues to emphasize practicality. Ford lists available SYNC 4A infotainment, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital instrumentation and dual-zone climate control. These are established Everest features rather than evidence of an entirely redesigned interior.

Seating capacity reaches seven passengers on appropriately equipped models. Ford also lists up to approximately 64 cubic feet of cargo space with the second and third rows folded, based on its published Australian cargo-volume figure.

Truck-Based Capability Remains a Priority

The Everest retains its focus on towing and off-road driving, two characteristics that distinguish it from many road-oriented family crossovers.

Ford quotes a maximum braked towing capacity of 7,716 pounds when properly equipped with the required towing package. That figure comes from Australian specifications and should not be interpreted as a US tow rating.

Depending on configuration, the SUV offers selectable driving modes, a locking rear differential and four-wheel-drive hardware designed for challenging surfaces. Ford also quotes a maximum water-wading capability of approximately 31.5 inches under specified conditions.

Available towing technology includes trailer assistance features, while higher-equipped versions offer additional comfort and convenience equipment. The overall approach is familiar: combine Ranger-derived utility with an enclosed passenger cabin and available three-row seating.

Why the 2026 Ford Everest Is Not Available in America

Although the Everest shares engineering roots with the Ranger pickup sold in the United States, Ford does not currently list the Everest among its American vehicles. Its official US lineup instead includes SUVs such as the Bronco, Explorer and Expedition.

Ford has not announced US pricing, American-market trims, EPA fuel-economy figures or a US on-sale date for the 2026 Everest. Australian specifications and equipment should not be treated as confirmation of a future American version.

For American enthusiasts, the Everest remains an example of a Ford product developed for international markets: a diesel-powered, body-on-frame SUV combining serious towing capability with family-oriented seating. The verified 2026 changes concern engine durability, trim availability and equipment, not the arrival of the hybrid-powered US SUV suggested by the original headline.
