2026 Ford Everest Gets Updated Diesel Engines, New Trims and Off-Road Tech, but No US Launch

Date:

The 2026 Ford Everest receives updated diesel engines, revised styling, new trim options and additional technology for international markets. Despite reports suggesting a smart hybrid powertrain, Ford’s official specifications do not confirm an electrified Everest, and the SUV remains unavailable in the United States.

The Everest is Ford’s body-on-frame SUV developed alongside the Ranger pickup, combining three-row family practicality with serious towing and off-road capability. For 2026, Ford is refining the existing generation rather than introducing an entirely new vehicle, with changes covering engines, equipment and model positioning.

Ford’s official May 26, 2026 announcement provides a clearer picture than earlier reports describing an all-new hybrid SUV. The updates vary by country, with Australia receiving revised diesel powertrains and the Middle East gaining a separate gasoline V6 option.

Updated Diesel Engines Deliver Up to 247 HP and 443 LB-FT

The most significant mechanical change for Australian buyers concerns the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel. Ford has revised its fuel injection system and introduced a timing chain, changes intended to improve durability. The engine produces 125 kW, approximately 168 mechanical horsepower, and 299 lb-ft of torque.

Above it sits the familiar 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel, producing 184 kW, approximately 247 hp, and 443 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, now standard across the updated range.

The V6 remains the stronger choice for drivers regularly towing heavy trailers, although both engines serve the Everest’s combination of everyday transportation and recreational use.

Ford also lists a market-dependent 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine producing approximately 271 hp and 310 lb-ft. Separately, Ford’s December 18, 2025 Middle East announcement confirmed a region-specific 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 rated at 355 hp and approximately 369 lb-ft.

None of these official announcements confirms a hybrid Everest. Claims about a mild-hybrid version remain speculative, and Ford has not published verified hybrid battery specifications, electric driving capability or hybrid fuel economy ratings for the 2026 model.

Everest Tremor Adds Specialized Off-Road Equipment

The updated Everest continues to emphasize the capability expected of a Ranger-related SUV. Depending on configuration and market, buyers can select four-wheel drive, terrain-specific driving modes and equipment intended for demanding surfaces.

The Everest Tremor takes that approach further. According to Ford’s June 18, 2026 technical announcement, the Tremor features Bilstein dampers, steel underbody protection, all-terrain tires and an exclusive Rock Crawl driving mode.

Properly equipped Everest models have a maximum braked towing capacity of 7,716 pounds, based on Ford’s 3,500-kilogram international specification. That figure should not be interpreted as a US-certified tow rating, and actual capacity depends on configuration, equipment and loading.

New Active Trim and Premium Cabin Updates

For 2026, Ford introduces the Everest Active as a new entry point in markets including Australia, replacing the previous Ambiente and Trend variants. It combines 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12-inch touchscreen and leather-accented seating. Five seats are standard on the Australian Active, with a third row available as an option.

Other versions continue to offer seven-passenger seating, making the Everest a practical alternative to more road-focused family SUVs in markets where it is sold.

The Platinum receives additional visual and interior refinements, including Acacia Green exterior paint, revised grille detailing, new 21-inch alloy wheels, updated seat quilting and contrasting interior stitching.

Technology improvements across the lineup, depending on trim and market, include wider availability of a 360-degree camera and tire-pressure monitoring. Ford also identifies an electronic parking brake and electronic gear selector as standard equipment across the updated Everest range.

Available equipment includes a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, Matrix LED headlights and heated and ventilated seats. Exact specifications depend on the country and trim, so these features should not be assumed standard on every Everest.

Why the 2026 Ford Everest Is Not a US-Market SUV

Although the Everest shares its underlying architecture with the Ranger pickup familiar to American drivers, Ford has not announced a US-market Everest or published American pricing, EPA fuel economy figures or a domestic release date.

American buyers seeking a Ford SUV currently have alternatives such as the Explorer, Bronco and Expedition, but none is a direct US-market version of the Everest. The Bronco emphasizes off-road capability, while the Explorer offers three-row family transportation.

The distinction matters because international Everest specifications cannot automatically be applied to an American model. Engines, emissions requirements, safety equipment and towing certifications would all need to be established for any potential US introduction.

For now, the verified 2026 Everest story is about a more extensively equipped international SUV with revised diesel engines, a broader trim lineup and additional off-road hardware-not a confirmed hybrid or an upcoming American launch.
