Pickup, Family Hauler, and SUV All in One: This 598-HP Monster Could Arrive in 2026 and Leave You Speechless

Date:

In an automotive landscape often accused of standardization, here’s a UFO that promises to shatter conventions: the Changan NEVO E07. This futuristic model boldly blends styles and uses, combining the size of an SUV, the elegance of a fastback coupe and the functionality of a pickup truck, all powered by a 100% zero-emission drivetrain. An amazing cocktail that could land on the US market as early as 2026 under the Deepal banner, Changan’s premium brand already confirmed for global markets.

The concept isn’t limited to a simple aesthetic curiosity. The NEVO E07 aims to offer true versatility of use, with a transformable rear area thanks to a retractable glass partition and reconfigurable seating, all hidden under a sleek silhouette over 16 feet long. Inside, the ambiance is equally innovative, with a minimalist dashboard, quality materials, an augmented reality head-up display and digitally-focused ergonomics.

Under the hood, the ambitions match the design’s boldness. The Changan NEVO E07 will be offered internationally with two types of zero-emission powertrains: a 100% electric version peaking at 598 horsepower, and an extended-range (EREV) version with up to 492 hp and 130 miles of electric range. An unprecedented technical proposition in this format, which could appeal to a public tired of conventional silhouettes. While its arrival in the US remains to be confirmed, it would mark a turning point in the Chinese offensive on the large premium electric segment.

A Unique Design Between SUV, Coupe and Pickup

It’s difficult to categorize the Changan NEVO E07 in a traditional segment. Up front, its silhouette evokes a large SUV, even a crossover with fairly conventional design. But moving toward the rear, the style escapes the beaten path: a pronounced fastback roofline, muscular volumes, and especially a rear cargo area that clearly borrows from pickups… without totally being one. Result: a vehicle with triple personality, which could appeal to drivers seeking modularity and originality.

Changan has equipped the E07 with a modular platform. Behind the rear seats, a retractable electric glass partition allows you to isolate or completely open the cargo section. The rear seats can fold flat, creating a large cargo surface worthy of a light commercial vehicle, while maintaining the comfort of a premium sedan. A glazed bed closes everything up, offering pickup flexibility without exposing the cargo area to weather. A rare approach that combines aesthetics and practicality.

At 16.5 feet long and 6.5 feet wide, the NEVO E07 plays in the big leagues. Its moderate ground clearance and contained height (5.4 feet) reinforce its elongated, almost sleek appearance despite its massive proportions. A format that could prove demanding on American roads, but one that immediately asserts an assumed premium ambition.

A High-Tech, Well-Finished Interior for Daily Use

The Changan NEVO E07’s cockpit reflects the standards of the most recent Chinese premium vehicles. Minimalism, embedded technology and quality materials define an interior designed to appeal to modernity enthusiasts. All functions are centralized on a large digital screen, offering streamlined ergonomics, in the style of a Tesla Model S or BMW iX.

An augmented reality head-up display completes the setup, projecting driving data directly onto the windshield with impressive clarity. The fit and finish, while not rivaling German premium manufacturers, are at a remarkable level for a Chinese vehicle. This is one of the areas where Changan wants to make its difference, with products that are no longer only competitive by their price, but also by their move upmarket in quality.

Habitability promises to be generous, notably thanks to a wheelbase of 10.2 feet, worthy of certain luxury sedans. Front and rear passengers will benefit from substantial legroom, and cargo volume, once the vehicle is converted to utility mode, could prove simply spectacular. Enough to appeal to both families and professionals.

Two 100% Zero Powertrains: Extended Range or Pure Electric

Changan has confirmed that the NEVO E07 will be available internationally with two clean technologies: a 100% electric version, and an extended-range (EREV) variant, a plug-in hybrid type with thermal range extender. Both receive the zero emissions label, which paves the way for US homologation in zero-emission zones.

The EREV version develops up to 492 horsepower, thanks to a system combining a 39 kWh battery and thermal engine, used only as a generator. The announced electric range, based on the Chinese CLTC cycle, reaches 130 miles. Even if this figure would be lower according to the EPA cycle, it remains significantly superior to conventional plug-in hybrids on the market, which average around 30-40 miles.

In parallel, the 100% electric version promises up to 598 horsepower and packs an 89.9 kWh battery, enough to guarantee significant range (not yet specified in US cycles). More accessible variants are also planned, notably in rear-wheel drive, while top-of-the-line versions will benefit from all-wheel drive. Enough to rival models like the BMW i5, Tesla Model Y Performance or Audi Q8 e-tron, but in a radically different format.

US Arrival in 2026 Under the Deepal Label: What to Expect

While the Changan NEVO E07 hasn’t yet been officially confirmed for the US, clues are multiplying. The Deepal brand, which already markets it in Australia, has already been validated for global implantation, with an arrival programmed as early as 2024 in various markets. The first Changan showrooms could open soon in major US cities.

E07 commercialization would occur, at best, during 2026, once the range is established and compact models are launched. Its unconventional format could deter some buyers, but it’s precisely this stylistic and technical boldness that makes it so interesting. At a time when SUVs all look alike, the E07 brings a refreshing vision of what modular electric mobility can be, without compromising on performance.

Other models like the Q05 SUV or the A05 and A07 sedans could also be deployed earlier, depending on the implantation strategy. But the E07 will remain the emblem of a new generation of Chinese vehicles, capable of marrying versatility, strong design and zero-emission technologies. It remains to be seen if the US market is ready for such an atypical vehicle.
