The BYD Seal 06 DM-i Wagon, freshly unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, is a major first for the Chinese automaker: a plug-in hybrid wagon designed from the ground up for the international market, particularly targeting Europe and North America.
At 15.9 feet long, with a wheelbase of 9.2 feet and a restrained height, the Seal 06 Wagon displays an elegant, streamlined, and decidedly modern silhouette. Its taut lines, slightly sloping roofline, and chrome accents evoke both the dynamism of a sedan and the practicality of a wagon. Its positioning clearly targets models like the Peugeot 508 SW Hybrid, the Skoda Superb Combi iV, or even the Volkswagen Passat Variant eHybrid.

DM-i 5.0 Technology: Two Extended-Range Hybrid Versions
The BYD Seal 06 Wagon’s greatest strength lies in its 5th generation DM-i plug-in hybrid powertrain, a technology now proven by the brand. Two versions are offered, both combining a 1.5L gasoline engine with an electric motor:
- 80 km version: 74 kW gasoline engine + 120 kW electric motor, electric range of 33 miles CLTC, battery capacity of 10.08 kWh.
- 120 km version: same gasoline engine, but with a 160 kW electric motor, offering 52 miles of electric range and a 15.87 kWh battery.
The system enables predominantly electric driving for urban trips, while guaranteeing extended total range thanks to the gasoline engine. An ideal solution for those not yet ready to go fully electric.

BYD also announces exceptional efficiency, fast charging capability on home chargers, and an intelligent energy management system, ensuring smoothness and fluidity in all circumstances.
A State-of-the-Art Tech Interior
Inside, the Seal 06 DM-i Wagon confirms BYD’s premium ambitions. The driver enjoys an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a rotating 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a technological signature of the manufacturer. The embedded DiLink system offers seamless connectivity, advanced voice commands, and intelligent navigation.

Habitability is excellent thanks to the generous wheelbase, with genuine rear-seat space for adult passengers and a very competitive cargo volume, though not yet officially announced. Acoustics and materials reinforce the refined atmosphere, with metallic accents, ambient lighting, and careful finishing.
The independent four-link rear suspension, combined with a reinforced architecture, promises stable road behavior that’s both smooth and precise, meeting global standards.

Shock Pricing… for a Highly Anticipated Global Launch
In China, the BYD Seal 06 DM-i is priced between 99,800 and 139,800 yuan, equivalent to $13,750 to $19,300 (approximately $14,100 to $19,800). At this price point, BYD promises a technological plug-in hybrid wagon that’s competitive and uncompromising on equipment.

Its arrival in global markets is expected during 2025, in a very favorable context for affordable electrified vehicles. Facing much more expensive models, the Seal 06 DM-i could become a benchmark alternative for families, fleets, or pragmatic users who want to combine range, space, and modernity.
With this new product offensive, BYD once again demonstrates that its strategy isn’t just about following the established leaders — but challenging them head-on, with in-house technology, formidable efficiency, and a value proposition that’s hard to beat.
